Q1: ๐Ÿ’ก What is the most rewarding part of working with Mathnasium students?

A:
It is really rewarding when we find what "works" for a student. If a student feels very negatively about school and shuts down during their lessons, finding out what helps that student and accommodating them is a huge step forward. Even if a student is just struggling with one topic, it's an amazing feeling when you find the missing link together.

Q2: ๐Ÿš€ What is one math tip or trick you often share with students?

A:
When solving a problem like 8% of 300, think of "percent" as a compound word. "Per" means "for each" and "cent" refers to a hundred, which means that we have 8 for each hundred. We have 3 hundreds. This means we have 8, 3 times, or in other words, 24! Even if you aren't doing percent out of an exact hundreds number, this is a great estimation tool for other percent problems!

Q3: ๐ŸŽ“ What qualities do you see in students who make the most progress at Mathnasium?

A:
One huge indicator of success at Mathnasium is when a student knows the right time to ask questions. If a student can identify when they need additional support and can independently seek help, it's a sign that the student is engaging with their work.

Q4: ๐Ÿ”ฅ If you could give parents one piece of advice before bringing their child to Mathnasium, what would it be?

A:
I'd really encourage parents to communicate with their children: ask your child how they're feeling about math, explain what you're observing about their math, and try to establish a mutual understanding. To achieve the best results, both the parent and the student should work together to engage with Mathnasium.

Q5: ๐ŸŽฏ What is your favorite teaching method or tool at Mathnasium?

A:
My favorite tool I've ever used is the set of unfoldable 3D shapes. These are fantastic for younger students who are learning faces, edges, and vertices. For the older students, they're wonderful visual aids to explain why certain formulas work for surface area and volume of figures like cylinders.
