Q1: How does your center keep math learning fun during the summer months?
A: All summer, we have a game board for students to challenge themselves and win fun rewards! Students can advance on the summer game board by attending lessons, finishing pages, and mastering concepts. They can earn small prizes, snacks, reward cards, and more! This summer-only event turns doing math into both a challenge and a game!
Q2: Share a recent success story from your center-could be a student who’s overcome a challenge, earned a reward, or showed great progress!
A: At school, Adira is finishing up second grade, so she and her family wanted the summer to be a chance to start her third grade math at Mathnasium. Knowing how valuable this summertime is, Adira worked really hard to finish up her second grade curriculum, and she is getting started on her third grade work, just in time to be ahead for school!
Q3: Why is summer learning important for your students, and how does Mathnasium help prevent the summer slide?
A: Did you know that people generally forget about 90% of new information they learn within a week? Whether students are at Mathnasium to catch up to grade level or to get ahead, regular practice is absolutely essential not just to learn, but also to retain that information. Summer especially presents a unique opportunity. Without school, students have so much more free time to absorb information--or to spend three months forgetting it all. At Mathnasium, we keep students in regular practice to maintain their current skills and learn new math skills all summer long utilizing an individualized learning plan!
Q4: What’s one thing you love about your students and families at your center?
A: Our students and their families are so dear to us, so we work hard to actively and regularly communicate with them! We are so lucky to work with so many families who support their children's math journeys, even if they haven't always been linear. Some of our parents are their students' absolute biggest supporters and advocates, and we are fortunate to work together with them!
