Everyone needs time to relax the brain and the body. Play is actually essential to reducing stress and to enhance emotional and cognitive development.
If children are perpetually rushing from one activity to the next there is a good chance they are over-scheduled. Our competitive culture makes it hard for parents and children to remember that children need a break to play and rest. They get stressed out when they don’t get this time, even when they love the activities!!!
How do you know if your child is stressed out? Look for these warning signs:
- Irritability
- Eating too much or too little
- Sleeping too much or too little
- Recurrent headaches or stomach pain without illness or physical causes
- Behavioral changes
We are not suggesting that your child give up all organized activities. Just keep it all in perspective. Mental and emotional health is more important than any organized activity.
We know you want your children to thrive in everything they do. That’s why you bring them to Mathnasium of Parker. Just make sure they are also getting sufficient time to play, socialize, exercise and just hang out! Those activities decrease stress.
Our motto is “We make math make sense” but we also try to make math fun. The more a child enjoys math, the less stressful it will be. One of our goals is that Mathnasium of Parker helps decrease stress (both for kids doing math and for parents). That’s part of why we add fun activities, parties, and games to our schedule.
We have several articles suggesting how to have fun with math. Not only will these activities decrease stress, they are also good for increasing enjoyment of math.
