My Child is in Camp This Summer - Should They Do Mathnasium, Too?

The warm, lazy days of summer will soon be upon us - or at least upon your children! You may be wondering what to do with your kids once school is out. Long, hot days filled with swimming, ice cream, video games, and way too much TV will confront you before long. Freedom from routine can feel liberating for a short time, but after a week or two many parents end up hearing the inevitable complaint, “I’m booored," and "There's nothing to do!" Doing math for fun has been a critical oversight in U.S. education. At Mathnasium, we encourage kids to have fun while learning math. That is why, back in the day, the first 4-6 weeks of school were spent reviewing last year's curriculum - to make up for the summer learning loss. Now-a-days, there is not enough room in the school year or the math curriculum to have that luxury, so the school year starts off with a bang and just keeps going! Kids who have forgotten key concepts, start falling behind from the get go, and many get progressively more frustrated as the year progresses.

STEM Camps
If your child will be enrolled in a STEM camp or STEM school program, a math program is the perfect addition. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM camps include topics such as nature and science, space, computer science, and robotics. These topics require students to be able to apply math skills and reasoning creatively. If your child understands the mathematical concepts behind the science, technology, and engineering at camp, they will have a more enjoyable experience and have more success at these camps. At Mathnasium of Parker, we will help your child be ready for a STEM camp. We recommend doing our summer sessions before the STEM camp, but we can also work with a child concurrently enrolled in a STEM camp.  Your child will feel like a math rock star at camp!

Performing Arts and Visual Arts Camp
Children attending an artistic camp, such as drama, music, dance, or painting benefit from our summer sessions too. Our math program promotes creative thinking, problem solving, and discipline. These same skills lend themselves to the creative process necessary for successful art and design. Thinking outside of the box results in more unique, individualized artistic achievement. Mathematical concepts are often incorporated into artistic design to ensure structural stability and integrity.  Because of this crossover, a summer math program combined with an art program offers a balance that allows math and art camps to complement each other well.

Mathnasium Summer Sessions
The curriculum at Mathnasium focuses on using individualized instruction to build a strong number sense, whole and rational number problem solving, and number computation. We spend the time to help your child master the how and why behind math theory, fill in learning gaps, and boost confidence to ensure concrete mathematical reasoning skills. Mathnasium of Parker offers summer-long math sessions with flexible hours and specialized instructors to meet your child’s individualized needs. Both 5-week and 8-week packages are available, and to accommodate our families' travel and vacation schedules the weeks do not need to be used consecutively. However, once a package has started, all weeks must be used before the end of summer.

Students come in for 60 minutes 3, 4 or 5 days each week. Attendance is flexible and does not require scheduling, allowing the math program to conveniently work within your child’s summer calendar, including day camps and even resident camps. All learning and review is done at our facility in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Our unique summer sessions will keep math skills sharp, build confidence, and address previous school year concerns in a no pressure environment that works with your schedule. We offer morning and afternoon learning blocks throughout the week.
