Where Are They Now? Catching up with previous Mathnasium of Parker students

Nov 22, 2022 | Parker

Hello from Mathnasium of Parker! Today we want to introduce you to one of our previous students, Slate DeMuth.

Slate attended Mathnasium of Parker from June -Aug 2012.

Q: Do you remember what brought you into Mathnasium of Parker for the first time? A: I cannot lie, what brought me into Mathnasium was my parents. Lol. Seriously though, I wanted some additional help with math outside of the classroom.

Q: How did enrolling in Mathnasium affect your academic future? A: I think enrolling with Mathnasium was a key factor in my academic development and provided a foundation for future success within math. What made my experience unique was Mathnasium doesn't take a "one-size-fits-all" approach to teaching. Having a catered lesson plan that hits on the areas where I struggled was an invaluable experience and integral to developing my math skills.

Q: Do you still use the math you learned at Mathnasium of Parker today? A: I still use most of the math I learned while attending Mathnasium. Number sense and being able to logically think through certain situations and problems is a huge part of my day-to-day life. A lot of my current job involves making estimates and assumptions which requires being able to quickly do computation and having an idea of if your numbers seem reasonable. Although I cannot say I use Pythagorean theorem on a regular basis, the number sense and quantitative ability I developed while at Mathnasium have been key parts of my career

Q: So, where are you now? A: I currently live in New York City working in finance, specifically equity research. In my free time, I am an avid runner and snowboarder. A goal of mine is to continue working towards earning my CFA charter - a series of 3 qualitatively focused exams. A second, perhaps more exciting goal, is to begin training to run a half-marathon and eventually work my way to running a full marathon.
