Our specially trained tutors help K–12 students prepare for any math exam. That includes everyday classroom quizzes and unit tests, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), and college admissions tests like the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®.
Whatever test your child is working toward, we build a personalized learning plan around their specific goals and timeline.
Our test prep program is built around each student's needs, not a one-size-fits-all schedule. Every student starts with a diagnostic assessment that helps us identify their current skill level, knowledge gaps, and test goals.
From there, our tutors follow a personalized learning plan, using our proprietary test prep materials and the Mathnasium Method™ to help students build understanding concept by concept and approach test day with real confidence.
We meet students where they are. Our tutors use the diagnostic assessment to pinpoint exactly where understanding breaks down, then work through those knowledge gaps step by step before building toward test-level material.
Rather than drilling questions in isolation, we focus on helping students truly understand the concepts behind them, so the preparation carries over into the exam and beyond.
We work with students at every skill level, including those who want to push beyond grade level or aim for a top score.
For advanced students, our tutors use the diagnostic assessment to identify the specific areas where points are being lost, then target instruction there. We aim to sharpen the skills that separate a good score from a great one.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, is California's statewide standardized test. It measures how well students are meeting California's math standards at each grade level, and results are used by schools to track academic progress.
Our tutors can align instruction with California state standards and help students build the foundational and grade-level skills the CAASPP tests. Because our personalized learning plans address knowledge gaps directly, students tend to go into the assessment feeling prepared rather than anxious.
The ACT® and SAT® tests cover overlapping material but differ in scope, format, and timing.
Topics: The ACT® covers a broad range of topics, including geometry and trigonometry. The SAT® focuses heavily on algebra and data analysis.
Format: The ACT® tends to feature more straightforward questions. The SAT® includes more complex, multi-step word problems.
Timing: The ACT® gives students about 1 minute per question. The SAT® allows closer to 1.5 minutes per question.
Scoring: The ACT® math section is scored on a 1–36 scale. The SAT® math section ranges from 200–800.
Calculator use: The ACT® permits calculators throughout. The SAT® restricts calculator use to one section.
Our tutors help students understand which tests play to their strengths and then prepare accordingly.
A good SAT® or ACT® math score depends on where your child is applying and what they're hoping to achieve.
For the SAT®, the national average math score is around 500–520 out of 800. Competitive scores for selective colleges typically fall in the 680–750 range.
For the ACT®, the national math average is around 20–21 out of 36, with selective schools often looking for 28 or above.
Students pursuing merit-based scholarships may want to aim even higher. Our tutors work with each student to set a realistic, meaningful target and build toward it.
The earlier your child starts test prep, the better, but it's never too late to start. For standardized tests like the SAT® or ACT®, most students benefit from three to six months of consistent preparation.
For state assessments like the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), building strong foundational skills throughout the year makes the biggest difference.
If your child has a test coming up soon, our tutors can focus the personalized learning plan on high-priority areas to make the most of the time available.
