Q1: How does your center make math fun and engaging for students?
A1: Our center makes math fun and engaging for students by creating fun theme weeks and creating opportunities to connect outside of our math time with events like Pi Day and Homework Help Nights. We also invest in our students! When you know them, you can connect and engage with what each student finds fun and interesting.
Q2: What does Pi Day mean to your students and instructors?
A2: Pi Day is a time to celebrate how math impacts our everyday life. We can show our students how math influences the world by bringing fun into it. It also allows us to connect with them outside of our typical format and create deeper bonds. For our students, they get to see their instructors in a whole new light and experience even more fun activities with them.
Q3: How do celebrations help students feel more confident in math?
A3: Celebrations help our students feel more confident in math because they get to see how fun it can be, and that math has real-life application. If we can show them that they can do math in the real world, we empower them to take their learning into their own hands and spark their curiosity to explore math outside of Mathnasium!
Q4: Why is it important to show kids that math can be enjoyable?
A4: We need to show kids math is enjoyable so they can explore math in their everyday life! We can break the stigma that math is boring or useless- that it can be fun and is universally useful- like how much you need to save to buy Pokémon cards, or how fast you can run. Showing them that math is enjoyable and helps you do the fun things you enjoy helps reinforce the importance of it. It also brings out their willingness to explore math outside of Mathnasium, and grow in confidence
