Q1: How does your center keep math learning fun during the summer months?
A: Math is fun year round here. We keep summer fun by keeping vibes up, vibrant decor, fun instructors, and great math. Students don't have to worry as much about homework and so we get to show them the joys of math with much less pressure, helping them catch up in ways that are unexpected. We are hosting summer activities like bingo to keep students engaged all summer, and we are launching a new financial literacy program to bring something new to the area!
Q2: Share a recent success story from your center-could be a student who’s overcome a challenge, earned a reward, or showed great progress!
A: We had a student who heavily relied on finger counting and as we steered her away from it, she really struggled when it came to skip counting. She really had a hard time connecting with various ways to tackle the subject but recently, she discovered a way that worked for her and she stopped using her fingers. She was so excited to tell her instructors and admin. She truly had an AHA moment and knew the gravity of her discovery. It was so incredible to see her confidence boost so quickly!
Q3: Why is summer learning important for your students, and how does Mathnasium help prevent the summer slide?
A: Summer learning is important for our students because this gives students who are behind a little bit of time to work on catching up, without additional schoolwork piling up and provides us a great opportunity to build up their confidence before the new school year. This time also allows us to incorporate more games and fun activities for the kids that allows us to forge truly deep connections with them and prepare them for life through math.
Q4: What’s one thing you love about your students and families at your center?
A: One thing I love about our students and families is they truly know the importance of math. Even on days the kids might not want to come in or parents are busy, we still see them and get to make a connection. We know our students like they were our own kids and truly get to root for them in the day to day. We truly live in the best place for community and are so grateful for our ability to contribute to the greater Spokane community.
