3D Printing Foundations: Design, Slice, Create

This hands-on introductory course teaches the fundamentals of 3D printing—from understanding different types of printers and materials to operating modern Bambu Lab machines. Students will learn how printers work, how slicing software prepares models for printing, how to create their own custom keychain tags using beginner-friendly modeling tools like Tinkercad, and even exploring more professional-grade tools like Fusion.

In addition to designing their own keychains, students will explore online maker communities and 3D model libraries to safely download, prepare, and print exciting functional projects such as retractable wands, fidget spinners with bearings, magnetized prints, and air-powered toys activated by push pumps. Along the way, they’ll learn how to evaluate models, modify basic settings, assemble components, and understand the full workflow from file to finished object.

By the end of the course, participants will understand the complete 3D printing process—design, slice, print, and assemble—while building confidence with real-world maker tools and technology.
