Michelle Friedeck
Owner
Michelle is the owner and Center Director at Mathnasium of Converse, which has proudly served local families for more than six years. Before opening the center, she spent 24 years teaching at the elementary level and earned both an MBA in Educational Administration from Lamar University and a BS in Elementary Education from Southwest Texas State University.
Having struggled with math as a child, Michelle is passionate about helping students truly understand math in a way that makes sense to them. She believes every child deserves to feel confident and capable when learning math.
Laney Stong
Lead Instructor
Laney is a senior at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is studying neuroscience. She has lived in the area her entire life and enjoys giving back to the community by helping students grow more confident in math. Her 12 years as a Girl Scout taught her patience, perseverance, and teamwork, qualities she brings to each lesson.
Laney loves creating a supportive environment where learning feels rewarding. Her favorite math joke is, “Are monsters good at math? Not unless you Count Dracula!” She enjoys seeing students discover that same spark of confidence in themselves.
Joseph Goffar
Instructor
Joseph is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Originally from Honolulu, he now calls Texas home. Outside of work and school, he enjoys video games, 3D printing, and Star Trek. He has a great sense of humor and brings enthusiasm to everything he does.
Joseph enjoys helping students find clarity and confidence in math. He jokes that while he is tall, he is terrible at basketball, but he always gives his best effort. He hopes to one day work as a design engineer while continuing to share his love of problem solving.
Mack Tully
Instructor
Mack is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a degree in computer science. A Texas native, he is passionate about cybersecurity and hopes to one day work in government service. He has traveled widely and brings curiosity and perspective to his teaching.
Mack has been a black belt in karate since the age of four and applies the same focus and determination to his work at Mathnasium. His favorite math joke is, “Why did the obtuse angle go to the beach? Because it was over 90 degrees.”
Rolando Urbina
Instructor
Rolando is a sophomore at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He lived in Chicago before moving to Texas in 2022. He wants to attend UTSA to major in Architecture or Engineering. He enjoys running, biking, and being outdoors.
