How Mathnasium of Converse helps MOTIVATE students!

Feb 14, 2023 | Converse

Glad you asked! Let’s take a sneak peak inside your local Mathnasium of Converse and ask their instructors!

Q: What helps students in your center stay motivated?

A: Our monthly calendar is full of fun and sometimes yummy days. Lots of kids schedule their sessions based off of what we will be doing on certain days. Some of the big hits are pizza day, double star day, and homemade chicken noodle soup day (which I actually make and bring in crock pots).

Q: Tell us about the reward cabinet!

A: Our reward cabinet is full of amazing prizes. The prizes range from 3 cards for candy, chips, and stickers to more expensive finds like 50 cards for Squishmallows or gift cards. Kids can request something to be put in the cabinet too.

Q: How do students earn prizes from the reward cabinet?

A: There are lots of ways to earn cards. Wearing an I Love Math t-shirt on t-shirt day is 1/2 of a card, assessments are 5 cards, progress checks are 3 cards, and each page completed is one star. There are 24 stars on our level 1 cards and some kids even earn a full card in a day through completed work.

Q: How does your center celebrate student success?

A: Student of the month is how we acknowledge the student who has great attendance, great work ethic, and is open to learning. We get parents in on the fun too by having the student come just a bit late to their session so we can get the silly string, confetti guns, and video rolling.

Q: What is your favorite student success story?

A: We have had so many great success stories! We had an autistic high schooler who used our results to get himself inducted into National Honor Society. He showed the committee where he started and where he was at now. He showed his improvement in grades from when he started to now and with all of that he was officially inducted. Now he's planning for college in August.
