Q: How does Mathnasium celebrate its student's success?
A: We celebrate students with our brag board! You'll see it right when you walk into the door. The brag board has pictures of our students holding great grades, passing tests with an A or B for the first time, teacher compliments from school, and our own in-center student of the month.
Q: Tell me about student’s reactions to having their work on the brag board.
A: Students love showing others their pictures and explaining what they are on the board for. It has really motivated our students to tell us about their successes. Every now and then, even a spelling test sneaks its way on to the board. Parents love looking at the board and seeing their child up there being acknowledged.
Q: What kind of work gets put up?
A: I love when a student comes bounding through the door with a progress report or report card showing an A in math for the very first time. We also put up classwork or projects that students are excited about. STAAR scores have made the board pretty often too. STAAR is our standardized test and is quite difficult to pass, so that's a really BIG accomplishment!
Q: Do you have a favorite memory of the Brag Board?
A: We have a brother and sister who both made a B in math for the very first time in the same quarter! The whole family celebrated and mom was especially excited. The confidence that both kids are gaining is playing out in other areas around the house, and even in their sports!
