Mathnasium of Converse's Top 5 Moments!

1. Our favorite “aha!” moment with a student.

A: I love when we are able to teach the concept of unity to students when finding equivalent fractions. Their eyes just light up when they finally understand they are simply multiplying or dividing by one to get a fraction with the same value! It becomes one of the easiest fraction concepts for them.

2. A time when a student earned a reward.

A: Maddie worked for over eight months for a pair of air pods. She got them just in time for her spring break trip. She actually cried tears of joy. She was so proud that she waited so long and worked so hard to earn those air pods.

3. Positive parent experience.

A: Here's one of our reviews: We are very happy with Mathnasium. My son started to struggle with Math during COVID and it was beginning to affect his confidence. He didn’t like Math anymore and found it so difficult. Mathnasium was one of the best things we could have done for him. He is now making great grades again in Math at school and he does not worry about Math homework anymore. It just gets done. I will say, you need to give it time and allow at least a year (it’s not in my opinion a few months fix) because they have to go back to where your child’s level is at. My son had to go back two grade levels but I can tell you it was worth the drive to get there (we come from Saint Hedwig) and the money. My son enjoys the atmosphere and of course, the reward system is a real incentive for the kids. The instructors are great, they are so patient and they seem to have the ability to make Math fun. The owner is very accommodating and hands on. I would highly recommend.

4. Favorite ways to teach concepts.

A: One of our favorite ways to teach positive and negative integers is with a numberline and then relate it to receiving or paying money. Once we show students how -10 is actually smaller than -2, they finally grasp the way negative numbers work. Students can see that -$10 they have less money because they owe more than -$2. We always tie it to the distance from zero. The numberline also helps to clarify when to add or subtract integers.

5. A time when a student scored well on a test.

A: We had a student prepping for SAT and after our prep, she gained 120 points, which combined with her GPA, allowed her automatic entrance into Texas A&M. She is now finishing up her freshman year and looking forward to her sophomore year.
