Q: What is a comprehensive assessment?
A: Our comprehensive assessment is given to every student who walks through our door. We do a verbal assessment first to see where the foundational gaps started. Then we do a one-on-one assessment to look at each skill. That helps us determine which skills we need to address and those where enrichment might be more appropriate.
Q: What things do you learn about a student when they take a comprehensive assessment?
A: The assessment helps us to uncover any foundational issues that may be causing confusion. It helps us create an individualized learning plan for every single student. There are no two alike!
Q: What is a customized learning plan?
A: The customized learning plan takes all of the questions missed on the assessment and develops lessons. All of these lessons are combined sequentially so that each concept builds on the other. The goal is to achieve mastery of concepts.
Q: How do you gauge progress?
A: There is a mastery check at the end of each lesson. By the time the students get to the mastery check, they should be able to complete the mastery check with 100% confidence and mastery. We also do progress checks after every ten mastery checks. The progress check ensures that students are retaining what they are learning. It gives the kids a chance to redo all of the concepts missed on the initial assessment. It also gives them the opportunity to knock concepts out that they initially did not know.
