Q: What makes Mathnasium different from other tutoring centers?
A: We are the only math-centered tutoring in our area. I love that every single student who walks through our doors has a learning plan uniquely designed for him/her. We are open after school and Saturdays too during the school year. Our instructors Kofi, Emma, Sofia, Mia, Rolando, and Thien are the best around!
Q: Why would you encourage parents to consider Mathnasium?
A: Math is a tricky subject for so many students (and adults). Math scores for STAAR are declining which indicates that students are really struggling in math more than any other subject. We make math make sense! We have intensive instruction based off a student's customized learning plan. Plus, we make math lots of fun with games, manipulatives, and a pretty impressive reward cabinet!
Q: How often do students get re-assessed?
A: We give every student a progress check about half way through their learning plan (about every 3 months), and that helps us to ensure retention of skills and eliminate skills the student has already mastered. The learning plans evolve with our students and ensure we are not wasting time. When Noah first started with us, he was like a sponge. He just soaked in everything we were giving him. He had his second assessment just two months after he started, and his retention was perfect. His MAP scores improved from 29% to 83% in a single year!
Q: What kinds of math help does your center/re offer?
A: We offer so many different types of math. We start as early as elementary, provide homework help, algebra, geometry, precalculus, TSI prep (for high schoolers wanting to take dual credit classes), SAT prep, and statistics. We even help students with remedial and college algebra. We've helped several adults pass exams for promotion, dental hygienist school (HESI), and a teacher pass the math portion of the TExES test.
