Which school do you go to and what is your major?

I am a first year bioengineering major at UC Berkeley.

Sounds like a tough major. What caused you to choose it and what do you hope to do with it?

I’ve always been strong in math and science subjects so bioengineering lets me enjoy the best of both worlds. I hope to use my education to help other people. I’m pretty sure I want to work in the healthcare field and go to medical school.

You said you were strong in math and science. Is there a math class you would take again?

I would take Calculus BC again because my teacher made the class interesting and the class gave me a new perspective on math.

Teachers definitely make a difference! What extracurricular activities did you do when you were younger?

When I was younger I used to play soccer and swam for the Goldenwest Swim Club.

And do you want to continue playing those sports in college?

I swam and played soccer for most of my life but dropped soccer in high school. I want to swim in intermodal events because I still enjoy swimming.

What show can you watch over and over and never get tired of?

Avatar the Last Airbender

Thanks Ethan! Regarding Mathnasium, do you have any favorite interactions with the students?

My favorite times with the students are the beginnings of each session when I ask them about their day. Some kids will just say it was ok or good but sometimes they’ll tell me about what they did or what they have planned. It makes it a lot easier to talk to the student and gets them more comfortable to learn math. For example one of the students talks a lot about his day and it makes the sessions more enjoyable.

Finally, what do you love most about working at Mathnasium?

The thing I love most about teaching math is experiencing the moment when a concept clicks for a student that they previously didn't understand.
