Mathnasium of Mechanicsville's personalized geometry tutoring programs are designed to support students at every stage of their math journey.
We introduce middle school students to foundational concepts like angles, shapes, congruence, and basic measurement, building the spatial reasoning and logical thinking skills needed for high school geometry.
Our tutors guide students through core topics—triangles, circles, proofs, transformations, and the Pythagorean theorem—using personalized plans that make abstract concepts clear and build problem-solving confidence.
Honors students and competition participants can receive targeted support for challenging topics like advanced proofs, coordinate geometry, and complex problem-solving strategies that prepare them for college-level coursework and math competitions.
At Mathnasium of Mechanicsville, our tutors are specially trained to support students in geometry, from early lessons on angles and polygons to advanced topics like coordinate geometry, similarity, and proofs. We meet each student where they are and guide them forward step by step.
In a welcoming and fun group environment, our tutors use proven teaching techniques to help students truly understand how geometry works and build lasting skills and confidence in the subject.
We use the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach that combines diagnostic assessments, personalized learning plans, and interactive techniques to teach geometry in a way that makes sense.
Our tutors build on what students already know, strengthening foundational skills and introducing new concepts gradually so they can truly understand and even enjoy geometry.
Each student begins their Mathnasium enrollment with a diagnostic assessment. Based on the assessment insights, we develop a personalized learning plan that targets their unique needs, whether they need to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
We adapt our teaching to each student’s learning style and adjust the plan in real time so they close learning gaps, build a strong foundation in the subject, and approach any task with independence.

Mathnasium of Mechanicsville helps students excel in geometry using personalized learning plans, proven teaching techniques, and caring guidance. We proudly serve local communities and schools, including:
Specially Trained and Caring Team
Paul Casillas
Center Director
Paul holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Washington Adventist University and brings a passion for hands-on learning to his role at Mathnasium. He started by teaching science experiments to elementary students, which led him to Mathnasium, where he now helps students explore number sense and problem-solving.
Paul enjoys connecting with kids and believes in the power of the Mathnasium Method to make math meaningful. When he’s not in the center, he enjoys skateboarding—and fun fact: he once landed a heelflip!
Austin Darnell
Regional Director
Austin holds a degree in Mathematics from James Madison University and has been with Mathnasium since 2019. He’s led multiple centers as Center Director and now supports teams across locations in his role as Area Manager.
Austin’s enthusiasm for math and education is matched by his creative side—he minored in film studies and enjoys filmmaking, podcasting, and reading in his free time. His goal is to help students and teams grow with clarity and confidence.
Jeff McCabe
President
Jeff earned his degree in Economics from James Madison University and a Master’s in Education from George Mason University. He spent a decade teaching math at the high school and college level before taking on leadership roles in national restaurant brands.
Now at Mathnasium, Jeff combines his passion for math education with operational excellence. He enjoys helping teams and students succeed. In his free time, he spends time with his wife of 28 years, their two dogs, and visiting their three adult children.
James Temple
CEO
James holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Virginia and served seven years in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft maintenance officer. It was during that time he began tutoring and saw how difficult—but important—math is for many students.
In 2007, James earned his MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business. As CEO, he combines his love for problem-solving with a mission to make math more accessible and empowering for every student.
Whether they would like to attend sessions in-center or online, students can take 3 easy steps to enroll at Mathnasium.
All students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints what they already know and the geometry concepts they still need to learn.

Whether your student is looking to build foundational skills or explore advanced topics, we provide targeted instruction that leads to real results.
We use the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach designed to help students build a deep understanding of any math topic, including geometry.
Each student starts with a diagnostic assessment to help us pinpoint their strengths, weaknesses, and learning goals. Using those insights, we create a personalized learning plan that targets specific geometry topics, whether that’s transformations, coordinate proofs, or understanding theorems.
Our tutors provide face-to-face instruction in a caring and fun small group environment, using mental, visual, verbal, tactile, and written techniques to adapt to how each student learns best.
Yes. Our specially trained tutors support students who feel stuck or discouraged in geometry.
We offer caring guidance and targeted instruction, breaking down complex geometry concepts into manageable parts. Working with our tutors, students fill knowledge gaps and rebuild confidence at their own pace.
Definitely. We work with advanced learners looking to go beyond the classroom curriculum, prepare for math competitions, or succeed in advanced-level courses.
We introduce them to complex proofs, multi-step problem-solving strategies, and real-world applications of geometry concepts that push their thinking further.
Yes. Each session includes time for homework support.
Our tutors help students tackle challenging assignments and guide them to understand the material, not just get the answers, so they can confidently solve similar problems on their own.
