1. What is the most common thing you see in new students coming to Mathnasium for the first time?

A: Lack of confidence. These students aren't sure of themselves or the answers, and feel like failures if they say the wrong thing, so they don't say anything at all!

2. If there was one thing you could tell parents before they bring their student to Mathnasium what would it be?

A: Don't wait! Get your child in as soon as possible so that you can nip it in the bud! The sooner your child gets the help, the easier the math will be for them. Please don't wait!

3. What things do the most successful students have in common?

A: The most successful students come in 2-3 times a week, and really work diligently on their material. Their success has to do with their attitude as well - they make sure they stay focused and if they don't understand something, they ask.

4. What are some of the ways you teach math to your students?

A: We like to use manipulatives (whether we draw things out or use physical pieces), it's a good visual tool to help children learn. Colors are great as well! Each of our stations has a set of crayons and markers so that we can use them if needed.

5. What do you think is the coolest thing about Mathnasium?

A: The coolest thing here is that we are actually changing lives for these students. These kids come in so quiet and not sure of themselves, and by the end of the session, it's like they found their voice, and are comfortable with the material they're working on. No other place has that affect on children!
