1. Our favorite “aha!” moment with a student.

A: Students highly struggle with long division. It seems like no matter how hard they work, it's just such a long process for them. A particular student at the Mathnasium of Redwood City was working on long division for weeks, they had not mastered the mastery check and needed to restart the lesson. The students started to hate long divison the more they worked on it because it just never made sense to them. However, after weeks of working on long division, the student had their ""aha"" moment when they realized the order of the steps without the help of an instructor.

2. A time when a student earned a reward.

A: Students often really want to save enough punchcards to be able to spend them on the giant Squishmallows here at Mathnasium. The student had been saving punchcards for months and was one punchcard short at the beginning of the session. She worked incredibly hard during her session to be able to complete the entire punchard. By the end of the session, she managed to complete the punchcard and buy herself a Squishmallow. She felt accomplished and learned a great lesson in saving.

3. Positive parent experience.

A: A highlight has been working with a pair of sisters new to the center that were a few years apart, yet were each other's best friends. The girls have been at the center for a few weeks now and yet after every session, the girls' mom makes sure to thank the instructor and review the material they previously worked on.

4. Favorite ways to teach concepts.

A: The quickest way we have learned to teach students the value of fractions in a manner that they understand is drawing pictures. Students seem to struggle with understanding that a bigger number in the denominator actually means the value is smaller, whereas, a bigger numerator indicates the value of a fraction is bigger.

5. A time when a student scored well on a test.

A: A student has worked with the instructors here at Mathnasium for years and has greatly excelled and improved. He is now a fifth grader working on algebra concepts. He recently scored a 97% on his post assessment. He did a great job!
