Feb 15, 2023 | Villages of Westcreek

Glad you asked! Let’s take a sneak peak inside your local Mathnasium of Villages of Westcreek and ask their instructors!

Q: What helps students in your center stay motivated?

A: We have implemented a variety of fun aspects in the learning process to keep all our students engaged and motivated through their hard work. These aspects include:

  • More Pages, More Stars: As students complete more pages, they earn stars as a reward for their progress.
  • Spin the Wheel: We have a spinning wheel that students can spin to win bonus stars and/or cards. This adds an element of excitement and surprise to their learning journey.
  • Fun Days: We organize special fun days where students can participate in enjoyable activities while still learning. These days provide a break from the regular routine and add an element of fun to their learning experience.

These different elements are designed to make the learning process enjoyable and motivating for our students.

Q: Tell us about the reward cabinet!

A: Our reward cabinet is stocked with an incredible array of prizes! The prizes range from 3 cards to 400 cards, and include a variety of exciting items such as squishes, slimes, art supplies, gift cards, and even a Nintendo Switch. We understand the importance of providing a wide selection to cater to different interests and preferences.

Moreover, we value the input and preferences of our students. They are welcome to make requests for specific items they would like to see in the reward cabinet. We strive to create a rewarding environment where students feel motivated and inspired to achieve their goals.

Q: How do students earn prizes from the reward cabinet?

A: There are numerous ways for students to earn cards as part of our reward system. Here are the various ways they can accumulate cards:

  • Pages Completed: Every page completed earns them one star, which can be redeemed for cards.
  • Spin the Wheel: By spinning the wheel, students have the chance to win anywhere from 4 stars to 48 stars, contributing to their card collection.
  • Fun Days: Participating in our fun days offers students the opportunity to earn a free card, adding an extra incentive for them to join in the activities.

Our level 1 cards have a total of 24 stars on them. Some students demonstrate exceptional dedication and complete enough work to earn a full card in a single day. These different methods ensure that students have multiple pathways to earn cards, motivating them to stay engaged and work towards their goals.

Q: How does your center celebrate student success?

A: Every successful completion of a mastery check by a student not only signifies their understanding of the topic but also grants them a chance to spin the wheel for bonus stars and/or full cards. This provides an additional incentive for students to demonstrate their mastery.

In addition, we have a special recognition for students who exhibit full understanding of the current topic. They earn the right to ring the zero error bell. When a student rings the zero error bell, it signals to the entire center that they have achieved a flawless performance. As a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication, everyone in the center stops to clap and acknowledge their accomplishments.

These practices not only motivate students to strive for excellence but also foster a supportive and encouraging environment where everyone celebrates each other's successes.

Q: What is your favorite student success story?

A: We have had so many great success stories! We are thrilled to share about the tremendous progress and success of our student who faces the challenges of Dyscalculia, a learning disorder specifically related to mathematics.

Starting from a point where the student struggled with basic single-digit addition and subtraction, it is remarkable to see their growth. They have made significant strides and are now, confidently working with higher-level concepts such as multi-digit multiplication, division, and even more advanced topics like fractions.

This progress is a testament to the student's perseverance, hard work, and the effective support provided by your team at Mathnasium. It showcases the power of tailored instruction and a nurturing learning environment in helping students overcome learning difficulties and reach their full potential.

We celebrate this success story and commend both the student and the dedicated team at Mathnasium for their commitment to transforming lives through mathematics education.
