Problem of the Week for July 20th to July 24th

Solve the problem of the week below for your grade level. During your @HOME session, be sure to tell your instructor or email the Math Centre your answer so your ballot can be deposited into your grade level entry box before closing time on Thursday. Students attending "in-Centre" sessions can deposit their ballots in their grade level entry box any time they are in the Math Centre during the week. On Friday afternoon (1:00pm), a ballot will be drawn from each Problem of the Week Entry Box and the first “correct” solution drawn from each box will win a Fabulous $10 Gift Card. All other “correct” Mathlete solutions entered will receive “2” extra punches on their Reward Card at the start of their next session in the Math Learning Centre.

Problem of the Week for Grades 3 and 4:  Tori has reading homework that is 19 pages long. The homework is printed front-and-back on sheets of paper. How many sheets of paper are needed for the whole reading assignment?

Problem of the Week for Grades 5 and 6:  Sebastian completed 4 math assignments, 5 writing assignments, 7 reading assignments, 3 history assignments, and 1 science assignment last week. Fill in the pie chart below (on your ballot) with Sebastian’s homework assignments.

Problem of the Week for Grades 7 and 8:  Lisa needs to memorize the locations of all 54 countries in Africa for a geography test that will be 30 days from now. She memorizes 7 countries every 3 days. Every 2 days, she forgets a country and needs to re-memorize it. Will she have enough time to memorize all of the countries in Africa for her geography test?  Explain How You Know!!!

Problem of the Week for Grades 9 and above:  Logan has answered 0.8 times as many math questions as Spanish questions, and he’s answered 5 more English questions than Spanish questions. If Logan has answered 33 questions in total, how many math questions has Logan answered?

LAST WEEK WINNERS OF PROBLEM OF THE WEEK:

Grades 3 and 4:   Good participation this past week of attempting to successfully solve the problem. Grades 5 and 6:   A struggle this past week of tackling the task solving the problem with everyone having worked hard on solving the problem!  Vaishno correctly solved the problem and was the only correct ballot to be drawn and she wins a Wonderful $10 Gift Card of her choice. Well done Vaishno!  Everyone be sure to devote time this week to solving the problem!!   Become a Mathnasium Mathlete!
