Problem of the Week for July 27th to July 31st
Solve the problem of the week below for your grade level. During your @HOME session, be sure to tell your instructor or email the Math Centre your answer so your ballot can be deposited into your grade level entry box before closing time on Thursday. Students attending "in-Centre" sessions can deposit their ballots in their grade level entry box any time they are in the Math Centre during the week. On Friday afternoon (1:00pm), a ballot will be drawn from each Problem of the Week Entry Box and the first “correct” solution drawn from each box will win a Fabulous $10 Gift Card. All other “correct” Mathlete solutions entered will receive “2” extra punches on their Reward Card at the start of their next session in the Math Learning Centre.

Problem of the Week for Grades 3 and 4: Laura and Harold are repotting orchids. They plant 2 orchid plants in each pot. When they’re done, they have 3 rows of 5 pots of orchids. How many orchid plants did Laura and Harold repot?
Problem of the Week for Grades 5 and 6: Christine has a cube-shaped box that is 1 metre wide that is completely filled with 1-decimetre cube-shaped blocks. She takes three-quarters of them out. How many blocks are left in the box?
Problem of the Week for Grades 7 and 8: Noah ate 5/12 of a bowl of ice cream. Brooklyn ate 6/14 of the same ice cream. Who ate more ice cream? How much more?
Problem of the Week for Grades 9 and above: In the figure below, AG is a line and the measure of “x” is two times the measure of “y”. What is the value of “y”?
