Mathnasium of SW Calgary - Problem of the Week!
Solve the problem of the week below for your grade level. During your @HOME session, be sure to tell your instructor or email the Math Centre your answer so your ballot can be deposited into your grade level entry box before closing time on Thursday. Students attending "in-Centre" sessions can deposit their ballots in their grade level entry box any time they are in the Math Centre during the week. On Thursday evening (8:00pm), a ballot will be drawn from each Problem of the Week Entry Box and the first “correct” solution drawn from each box will win a Fabulous $10 Gift Card. All other “correct” Mathlete solutions entered will receive “2” extra punches on their Reward Card at the start of their next session in the Math Learning Centre.

Problem of the Week for Grades 3 and 4: A Sweet and Salty snack mix calls for 1/3 cup of popcorn, 5/8 cup of pretzels, 2/3 cup of peanuts, 1/4 cup of chocolate chips, and 1 cup of gumdrops. Raina wants to make a list of the measurements from largest amount of ingredients to smallest for her grocery list. Order the measurements in order from largest to smallest.
Problem of the Week for Grades 5 and 6: Lilac had $12,000 in her savings account. She entered a contest where she risked some of her money and lost 25% of her savings in the first round. She then lost another $1,800 in the second round. But then she won back 10% in the last round. How much money does Lilac have left in her savings account?
Problem of the Week for Grades 7 and 8: Cooper bought lunch for his friend. Each person picked either a burger or a salad. The salads cost $5 each and the burgers cost $9 each. If Cooper spent $47 and bought lunch for 7 people, how many of each item did he buy?
Problem of the Week for Grades 9 and above: Johnny has the function f(x) = x2, which is transformed 3 units to the right and 5 units up. What is the new equation of the function after applying the transformations?

Grades 5 and 6: Also a tough week and limited participation this past week as everyone worked hard on solving the problem!
