Why Math Matters
By Anna, Instructor
When working on a tough problem, the question of “When am I ever going to need this in my real life?” tends to pop up in people’s heads. The answer is that math has many uses outside of the classroom!
Everybody uses math sometime in their day. Math is used to figure out what time people need to leave their house to get to an event on time. Math is also used in the store, when people are trying to figure out how much money they save with a sale. There are also many jobs that involve math such as accounting and engineering.
Although many people use math everyday, one of the most important things that math teaches is critical thinking skills. People use critical thinking skills all the time. Important life skills that involve critical thinking include driving, figuring out a way to compromise with a friend, or even choosing what to wear in the morning!
So next time you are struggling with a math problem, remember that you are working to build the critical thinking skills that you will use for the rest of your life!
