Mathnasium of Plano's personalized algebra tutoring programs are designed to support students at every stage of their math journey.
We guide students to build the algebraic reasoning they need for Algebra 1 and help them transition from concrete to abstract thinking, mastering topics like integers, order of operations, fractions, and introductory variables.
Students receive caring support through multi-step equations, linear functions, graphing, and word problems, building both skills and confidence in this pivotal course that shapes their entire math trajectory.
We provide support with fast-paced and complex topics, such as factoring polynomials, exponentials, logarithms, and quadratics, while building advanced problem-solving skills that Precalculus and college-prep coursework ask for.
At Mathnasium of Plano, we help students of all skill levels learn and master algebra. We support them in Prealgebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2, as well as concepts like expressions, graphing, equations, exponential relationships, functions, and polynomials.
Our specially trained math tutors provide personalized, face-to-face instruction in a fun and caring small-group environment. We meet each student exactly where they are, helping them fill in knowledge gaps, (re)build foundational skills, and gain the confidence to tackle new algebra challenges.
We use our proprietary teaching approach, the Mathnasium Method™, to help students truly understand how algebra works while sharpening problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
Our tutors combine proven interactive techniques with personalized learning plans designed to fit each student’s needs and learning style. This way, algebra becomes understandable and easier to apply both in class and in real-world situations.
Students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that helps us pinpoint their current skill level, learning style, and academic goals. Using these insights, we create a personalized learning plan that addresses each student’s specific needs, whether they’re looking to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Our tutors follow each plan closely and adapt instruction in real time, ensuring steady progress and lasting confidence. Students advance at a pace that allows them to truly understand the concepts they’re working with and develop a deeper appreciation for algebra.

Specially Trained and Caring Team
Amber Chen
Center Director
Amber holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and has nearly nine years of experience in the education field. She has served as both an Associate Center Director and Center Director, supporting students with tutoring, test preparation, and college counseling. Earlier in her career, she worked as a foreign language teacher in Arizona. Through her experience in classrooms and learning centers, Amber has seen how many students struggle when instruction is not aligned with their individual learning levels.
Amber joined Mathnasium because she is passionate about helping bridge these learning gaps. She believes every student deserves instruction that meets them where they are, challenging advanced learners while supporting those who need extra help so they can build confidence and succeed.
Outside of work, Amber enjoys hiking and spending time with her two Shiba Inus. As a devoted dog lover, she is always happy to chat about pets, trails, and the outdoors.
Mia
Associate Center Director
Mia holds a Master’s degree in Human Development & Early Childhood Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas and has more than five years of experience supporting young children as they build essential learning skills.
Through her work with children who have a wide range of developmental needs in both clinical and in-home settings, Mia has developed a strong understanding of how to tailor support to meet each child’s unique strengths and challenges.
She is passionate about creating a supportive learning environment where students feel confident, encouraged, and motivated to learn. Mia believes that positive early learning experiences build the foundation for long-term success in math, and she enjoys partnering with families to help children grow, develop confidence, and thrive.
Outside of work, Mia enjoys ice skating and baking (though not at the same time!) and loves trying out new recipes on her friends and family.
Whether they would like to attend sessions in-center or online, students can take 3 easy steps to enroll at Mathnasium.

The diagnostic assessment helps us identify where each student stands with algebra, what they already understand, where the gaps are, and what goals they're hoping to achieve.
From there, we build a personalized learning plan around that student specifically, instead of starting everyone at the same place or assuming what a "typical" student at their grade level should already know.
We don’t follow a pre-set algebra curriculum. Instead, our tutors use the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach designed to build deep understanding of algebra.
We identify what a student already knows, close any foundational gaps that hold them back, and introduce new material step by step.
Sessions are guided by each student's personalized learning plan in a small, supportive group setting, face-to-face. Students build the kind of confidence that changes how they think and feel about algebra altogether by making progress at their own pace.
Yes. Algebra difficulties usually point to missing foundational skills that make learning new material overwhelming. Our tutors systematically target and fill those gaps to rebuild confidence and subject mastery.
We meet every student at their own level and walk through complex concepts step by step. Many achieve visible progress in their classroom grades after just a few weeks with us.
Certainly! We work with advanced algebra students across the board, including:
Students in honors and accelerated courses
Students looking to get ahead of upcoming coursework
Students seeking enrichment beyond the classroom
Mathnasium of Plano also offers Mathnasium Plus, an enrichment program for high-achieving students in grades 1 through 7, giving them a chance to explore advanced concepts and build reasoning skills above grade level.
Of course. When needed, our tutors can dedicate a portion of the session to homework support.
Instead of simply providing answers, we use each assignment as a live teaching opportunity to reinforce what students are learning in school and help them develop independence to tackle similar problems on their own in the future.
Yes. We can align instruction with Texas classroom expectations and TEKS standards to help students prepare for quizzes, unit tests, final exams, state assessments like the STAAR tests, and standardized tests like the SAT® and ACT® that include algebra content.
Yes, students can join face-to-face online sessions with the same tutors they'd work with at our Plano center. Online tutoring follows the same personalized learning plan and delivers the exact same quality of caring, real-time support as attending in person.
No, there's no difference. In-center or online, students work with the same specially trained tutors, follow the same personalized learning plan, and get the same face-to-face instruction. Many families mix both formats for added flexibility.
We identify the current skill level and academic needs of each student at Mathnasium of Plano by starting their enrollment with a diagnostic assessment.
These insights help us build a personalized learning plan. Our trained tutors adapt instruction in real time, reinforcing understanding, introducing new concepts gradually, and helping students move forward with confidence.
Yes. Our tutors know Texas's TEKS standards for mathematics and the academic expectations of local schools across Plano Independent School District, Frisco ISD, Allen ISD, and Lewisville ISD.
When it supports a student’s plan and goals, we align instruction with what they are learning in class, so tutoring directly reinforces classroom material and prepares students for state expectations like the STAAR assessments.
The Mathnasium of Plano works with students in grades PreK-12, and algebra support tends to focus on grades 6 through 12. It covers standard, honors, and accelerated coursework.
Our tutors also help middle schoolers build foundational skills that make algebra easy to learn the moment they get to upper grades.
Getting started is simpler than you might expect. Call or text us at (972) 393-6284 or email p[email protected] to schedule a free diagnostic assessment.
We'll evaluate your child's current skills, talk through their goals, and build a personalized learning plan. Most students attend their first sessions within just a couple of days of their assessment.
