The summer holidays are coming to an end, school bags are being packed and pupils across East Renfrewshire are returning to their classrooms.
A new school year brings fresh opportunities, new teachers and new topics. However, it can also bring some nerves—particularly for children who found maths difficult last year or who have lost confidence during the summer break.
At Mathnasium of Glasgow South in Newton Mearns, our Back to School Campaign is now under way. The posters are up, our centre is ready and our instructors are looking forward to helping local pupils begin the new school year feeling prepared, positive and confident.
We would like to say a Massive Congratulations to Our National 5 Students !
Before looking ahead to the new school year, we want to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our National 5 students.
A massive congratulations to all our students who passed their National 5 exams. Your results are a reflection of the hard work, determination and consistency you showed throughout the year. Preparing for National 5 examinations requires commitment, and we are extremely proud of everything you have achieved.
We also want to give a huge well done to our brilliant Mathnasium instructors. Each and every one of you guys, have played an important part in our students receiving such great grades. We are truly blessed to have some amazing minds in the centre, Laura, Matthew, Harika, Logan, Nikta, Omer, Halima and of course Philip, you all well and truly rock.
These guys supported the students throughout their National 5 journey, explaining difficult topics, filling knowledge gaps, building confidence and helping each student stay focused on their goals. Their patience, knowledge and commitment made an enormous difference.
These results show what can happen when hardworking students are supported by instructors who genuinely care about their progress. Congratulations to every student and every instructor involved—you should all be incredibly proud.

Why the Start of the School Year Matters
The first few weeks of the school year are an ideal time to establish strong learning habits.
Maths topics build on one another. A child who is uncertain about multiplication, fractions, decimals or percentages may find that later topics become increasingly difficult. At secondary school, gaps in algebra, equations or problem-solving skills can also make new classroom work feel overwhelming.
Addressing these gaps early can help prevent frustration later in the year.
At Mathnasium, we identify what each student already understands and where additional support is needed. We then use that information to create a personalised learning plan designed around the individual student.
This means children are not simply given more worksheets or asked to memorise procedures. Our instructors help them understand why a method works, develop stronger number sense and become more independent mathematical thinkers.
Helping Children Catch Up, Keep Up and Get Ahead
Every child arrives at Mathnasium with different needs.
Some pupils need support with topics they missed or found difficult during the previous school year. Others are working at the expected level but would benefit from additional practice and greater confidence. Some children are already strong mathematicians and need more challenging work to keep them interested and progressing.
Our personalised approach allows us to meet students at the right level.
For younger pupils, that may mean strengthening essential number skills and developing a positive attitude towards maths. For secondary school students, it may involve supporting current classroom topics, closing long-standing gaps or preparing for important qualifications such as National 5 Maths.
Whatever the starting point, our aim is to help every student make meaningful progress and feel more confident when they walk into their maths classroom.

Building Confidence as Well as Maths Skills
Confidence plays an important role in maths achievement.
When children believe they are “bad at maths”, they may avoid answering questions, hesitate to attempt unfamiliar problems or give up too quickly. Over time, this can prevent them from demonstrating what they are genuinely capable of achieving.
Our instructors create an environment where students can ask questions, learn from mistakes and experience regular success. As understanding improves, confidence often begins to grow as well.
The goal is not simply to help children complete today’s homework. It is to equip them with mathematical knowledge, problem-solving skills and confidence that will support them throughout school and beyond.
