Word Problem Wednesday: The Texas Edition!

Jul 20, 2016

Last week, Team Mathnasium gathered in Dallas, TX for the 12th Annual Mathnasium Convention, and we're still glowing from the amazing time we had... hence the focal point of this installment of Word Problem Wednesday! Give our word problem a shot and check back tomorrow for the answer!

Texas became a state in 1845. Twenty-six years later, Dallas legally became a city. How many years has Dallas been a city?

Update: Here's the solution!

It’s 2016 right now, so Texas is 2016 – 1845 = 171 years old. Dallas is 26 years younger than Texas, so Dallas has been a city for 171 – 26 = 145 years old.
