Meet Harj and Kalina, the Owners of Mathnasium Reigate

Aug 26, 2026 | Reigate

Mathnasium of Reigate is opening in the heart of Reigate town centre, led by a husband and wife team who between them bring more than three decades of experience in education, numbers and building communities.

"Our doors will be open to children of all abilities. Whether your child needs a little extra support, wants to build their confidence or is already doing well and would love an extra challenge, Mathnasium is a welcoming place for everyone. We aim to help every child feel confident, supported and to genuinely enjoy maths." say Harj and Kalina.

A maths teacher and a community builder

Harj has a lifelong passion for maths. He studied Mathematics at university and has been teaching the subject for more than 20 years, alongside a parallel career as a chartered accountant. For Harj, helping a young person reach that moment when a concept finally "clicks" has always been one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

Kalina brings a complementary background, with more than 15 years in corporate events and hospitality, with a career built around working with people and bringing communities together. She's passionate about creating an environment where children feel encouraged, welcomed and excited to learn, not just taught to.

Together, they hope to define Mathnasium of Reigate through a unique blend of deep subject expertise, genuine warmth and a strong commitment to community.

Why they chose Mathnasium

Harj and Kalina both believe maths is an essential life skill, but they're clear-eyed that every child has a different relationship with it. Some children find it frustrating or intimidating. Others love it and are ready for more of a challenge.

What stood out to them about the Mathnasium Method was how personal the approach is. Rather than placing every child on the same programme, Mathnasium starts with an individual assessment, then builds a learning plan around each child's specific strengths, gaps and goals.

"We also loved the focus on genuine mathematical understanding and confidence, rather than simply memorising answers or processes," they say.

Meeting children where they are

What Harj and Kalina value most about the Mathnasium Method is how it breaks concepts down into clear, manageable steps, built from wherever a child's understanding currently sits, not from where the school curriculum assumes they should be.

"Children learn not only how to solve a problem, but why it works," they explain. "When maths starts to make sense, confidence grows. Children become more willing to have a go, ask questions and challenge themselves and that's what we're most excited to see."

Open to every child, not just those who are struggling

One thing Harj and Kalina are keen for local families to know: Mathnasium is for children of all ages and stages.

Whether a child needs extra support, wants to build confidence, needs to strengthen earlier foundations, or is ready to be challenged further with GCSE Maths or 11+ preparation, all are welcome through the door.

A centre built for Reigate

Harj and Kalina have had close ties to Reigate for more than 15 years, drawn to its strong sense of community. Opening a centre here isn't just about location, it's about becoming genuinely involved locally, building relationships with families and schools and supporting local initiatives and events.

Mathnasium of Reigate is based right in the town centre at 9-11 West Street, surrounded by local cafés, shops and businesses. "We'd love families to pop in and say hello," they say. "We want Mathnasium of Reigate to feel like a friendly and familiar part of the community."
