Helping Students in Teddington Excel in Maths

At Mathnasium of Teddington, our specially trained instructors use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach, to help children understand maths rather than memorise their way through it. Following this approach, we combine personalised learning plans with mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques to meet each child exactly where they are on their maths journey, transforming how they think, and even how they feel, about the subject along the way.

We focus on building the foundation for lasting maths mastery, including the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that carry through every stage of school.

Mathnasium of Teddington's specially trained instructors work with children from Reception through to GCSE at our centre on Hampton Hill High Street, or online via Mathnasium@home.

Sessions take place in a caring and fun group environment, where each child receives individual, face-to-face instruction guided by their own personalised learning plan.

Every child at Mathnasium of Teddington begins enrolment with a diagnostic assessment, designed to give us an accurate picture of what they already know and where the gaps are.

From there, we build a personalised learning plan that builds on what the student knows and closes knowledge gaps sequentially, so each new topic sits on solid ground rather than papering over what came before.

  • What year groups does Mathnasium of Teddington work with?

Mathnasium of Teddington works with children from Reception through to GCSE, ages 4 to 16, across all Key Stages from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS4.

Wherever a child has just started primary school or they are heading into their GCSE years, we can help them excel in their maths classes, exams, and beyond.

  • What maths topics and subjects can your tutors in Teddington help with?

Our instructors cover the full range of primary and secondary maths, from early number skills through to the algebra, geometry, statistics and trigonometry children meet in KS3 and KS4. We support all year groups from KS1 through to GCSE.

Because every child follows a personalised learning plan, sessions target the specific topics they find most challenging rather than working through a fixed sequence. For instance, if your child needs to shore up fractions in Year 5 or sharpen algebra ahead of mocks, that is where we focus.

  • How is Mathnasium different from a private tutor?

Private tutors typically provide ad-hoc support focused on the student's immediate needs such as tackling a challenging topic or few, or preparing for a maths exam.

While Mathnasium of Teddington helps students keep up with their school work, our primary focus is building long-term maths mastery.

We do this by creating learning plans that are tailored to each student's specific needs, goals, and learning style. So students receive structured and personalised instruction, that is flexible enough to adjust to their changing needs while producing measurable results.

Teaching happens in a caring and fun group environment, where each child receives individual, face-to-face instruction, building confidence alongside peers rather than working in isolation.

  • How do you teach maths? Which curriculum do you use?

At Mathnasium of Teddington, we do not follow a traditional curriculum. We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that focuses on developing a deep understanding of maths and gradually expanding mathematical thinking.

In practice, our instructors combine mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques with personalised, assessment-based learning plans to provide each student with the exact support they need. Sessions can complement what children are covering in school under the National Curriculum, while also addressing any gaps that have built up over previous years.

  • Do you work with advanced children or only the ones struggling with maths?

Mathnasium of Teddington works with children of all skill levels, whether they need to catch up, keep up with their maths class, or get ahead.

For children who are finding maths difficult, we start from exactly what they already know and build forward, closing gaps methodically so each new topic has solid ground beneath it. Our caring instructors adjust the pace and teaching approach to how each child learns best, celebrating every win, no matter how big or small, to build the confidence needed to tackle greater challenges.

Students who are ahead of their year group follow their own personalised approach, which can introduce them to maths beyond the school curriculum, deepening their understanding and preparing them for selective school entry, competitions, or simply more demanding work.

  • Do you help prepare children for independent school entrance exams (7+, 11+, 12+ and 13+)?

Yes! Teddington and Hampton Hill sit within an area well served by independent and preparatory schools, and Mathnasium of Teddington supports children preparing for 7+, 11+, 12+ and 13+ entrance exams, covering the numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills these tests assess.

Because preparation timelines vary by exam, we build each child's plan around their specific entry point and target school, starting early enough to close gaps and build confident, consistent performance.

  • Do you offer GCSE maths tutoring?

Yes, Mathnasium of Teddington supports Year 10 and Year 11 children through their GCSE maths preparation with a personalised plan built around their current grade, target grade and the topics that need the most attention, covering number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics.

We also include a structured past paper practice program so students have exposure to exam technique and timing.

  • Do you prepare children for SATs?

Absolutely! We help Year 6 children in Teddington prepare for their KS2 SATs maths papers, working through both the Arithmetic and Reasoning papers. We use the diagnostic assessment to identify the specific concepts that need reinforcing, then build those into the child's learning plan rather than relying on drills and rote memorisation.

We also support Year 4 children preparing for the Multiplication Tables Check and Year 2 children working towards their KS1 assessments.

  • How much does maths tutoring cost at Mathnasium of Teddington?

Tuition at Mathnasium of Teddington is priced as a flat monthly membership fee rather than a per-session rate, much like a gym membership. We recommend most children attend two to three sessions a week for optimal results.

Following the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session plan tailored to your child's learning needs and goals.

  • How can I enrol my child at Mathnasium of Teddington?

The first step is a diagnostic assessment, which gives us an accurate picture of your child's maths rather than relying on assumptions. From there, we build their personalised learning plan and talk you through exactly what we recommend.
