At Mathnasium of Clapham, our specially trained instructors use the Mathnasium Method™ to help children build a lasting understanding of maths, helping them reason through problems with confidence. This proprietary teaching approach combines personalised learning plans with mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques, adapting to each child’s way of thinking.
Whether your child needs to close a gap or push further ahead, the Mathnasium Method™ gives them the tools to make real, lasting progress.
Our caring, specially trained instructors work with children from Reception through to GCSE at our centre on Northcote Road and online via Mathnasium@home. Sessions take place in a supportive one-to-one environment where children feel comfortable asking questions and working through problems at their own pace.
Every session is guided by each child’s personalised learning plan, so time spent here is always purposeful.
At Mathnasium of Clapham, every child’s programme starts with a thorough diagnostic assessment. We use assessment-based insights to build a personalised learning plan that maps out exactly what needs to be addressed and in what order, working from solid foundations upward rather than patching over gaps.
Children progress at their own pace, building the problem-solving skills and maths confidence that stay with them well beyond their next exam.

Specially Trained and Caring Team
Colette Vakil
Centre Director
I am delighted to be part of a team that supports students in becoming the best versions of themselves in a crucial subject like Maths. As a mother of two grown daughters, I understand firsthand the importance of providing the right support and encouragement to create an environment where students can thrive. It is a real pleasure to be part of the Clapham community, and I look forward to welcoming your children into our centre!
Juliette Roberts
Assistant Centre Manager
Hi, I am Juliette and I am delighted to join the team at Mathnasium Clapham as the Assistant Centre Manager. My background studying languages at UCL and my experience teaching in Italy have given me a unique appreciation for how mathematics mirrors language through logical structure and methodology. Having run a doggy daycare business in South London for several years, I bring strong problem-solving skills, high energy, and a creative approach to this role.
Outside of work, I am passionate about travelling and exploring new cultures. In my spare time, I also enjoy running and am currently preparing for my 10th half marathon! Additionally, I love going to the cinema.
I am really looking forward to working with you all and being a part of the Clapham community.
Veronica Sambataro
Assistant Centre Manager
I completed my Master’s degree in Mathematics with top marks and honours in 2022 in Italy, where I am originally from. I’ve also worked in a UK secondary school, where I became familiar with the English curriculum and teaching approach.
I love maths because it combines logical thinking with creativity, encouraging you to think in different and imaginative ways. Alongside my work in maths, I’m also a professional dancer, and I see strong parallels between creativity in movement and maths.
I hope to share this perspective with students and help them see maths as a creative and engaging subject.
Renata Galesi
Lead Online Instructor
I graduated in Economics and Management from LSE. Teaching at Mathnasium lets me combine my love for problem-solving with helping students gain confidence in maths.
I enjoy seeing students’ lightbulb moments and tailoring my teaching to their unique learning styles. My goal is to inspire creative thinking and help them build skills for success.
When I’m not teaching, I’m probably exploring new places, learning about different cultures, or planning my next adventure.
Emma McPhee
Lead Instructor
Hi, I’m Emma, one of the lead instructors at Clapham. I’ve just finished my undergraduate degree in economics and have been working at Mathnasium for over two years, although I have been tutoring in some capacity for more than a decade. My favourite part of teaching has always been guiding the students to find the answers themselves. Teaching children how to break a problem down into smaller, more manageable parts can often give them the confidence to solve more complex problems on their own!
I also love the diversity of approaches to learning available at Mathnasium. Being able to combine visual, written and spoken cues while teaching means I’m able to cater to all the different learning styles of my students, helping them learn in the way that works best for them.
Two fun facts about me are that I have lived on three continents and I am currently trying to read a book from every country in the world – I’m at 68, hoping to get to 75 this year!
Whether they would like to attend sessions in-centre or online, students can take 3 easy steps to enrol at Mathnasium.
All students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints what they already know and what they still need to learn.

We work with children from Reception through to GCSE, children aged 4 to 16, spanning all Key Stages from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS4.
Clapham families tend to come to us at a range of different stages: some want to build solid foundations early, others are preparing for competitive school entry, and others need focused support heading into GCSEs. Whatever the stage, we have a programme to fit.
Our instructors support children across the full primary and secondary maths curriculum — number, fractions, decimals and percentages, algebra, ratio, geometry, statistics, and trigonometry — at every level from KS1 through to KS4.
Sessions are shaped by each child’s's personalised learning plan rather than a set course, which means a Year 3 child working on times tables and a Year 10 child preparing for their GCSE mocks will each get exactly the focus they need. Nothing more generic than that.
With a private tutor, the structure of each session tends to depend on what the child walks in with that day. Mathnasium of Clapham works from a different starting point entirely.
Every child is assessed before sessions begin, and their learning is shaped by a personalised plan built around their individual knowledge gaps and goals. Our instructors follow the Mathnasium Method™, a structured, consistent teaching approach used across 1,200+ centres worldwide, so progress is systematic rather than reactive.
Sessions take place in a supportive small-group setting, where children receive personalised one-to-one instruction while, building confidence alongside peers and keeps children engaged in their maths.
Our maths tutoring follows the Mathnasium Method™, not a fixed curriculum. The Method is built on the principle that maths should make sense, that a child who understands why something works will retain it and apply it far better than one who has learned to follow steps by rote.
Our instructors use a combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written approaches, guided throughout by each child’s personalised learning plan. We keep a close eye on what children are covering at school under the National Curriculum, so sessions complement classroom learning while also addressing any gaps that have developed over time.
We work with children of all skill levels, and a significant number of the families who come to us in Clapham are looking to stretch their child rather than catch them up.
For children who are ahead of their year group, we open up maths beyond the standard curriculum with deeper problem-solving, more demanding topics, and preparation for selective school entry.
For those who are finding maths hard, we start from where they are and build methodically, closing gaps so that each new concept has something solid to sit on. And for children somewhere in the middle, we help them stay on track and build the kind of consistent performance that makes the jump to secondary school or GCSE far less daunting.
Yes! Mathnasium of Clapham helps children prepare for the 11+ and other selective school entrance exams, including 7+ and 10+. The Clapham and Battersea area has an independent school presence, including Thomas's, Broomwood, Eaton House and others, and many of the families we work with are navigating those admissions processes.
We recommend starting 11+ preparation in Year 4 or early Year 5 to allow enough time to build solid numerical reasoning skills and work through the full range of question types systematically.
Yes. Our instructors support Year 10 and Year 11 children through their GCSE maths preparation with a personalised plan built around their current performance, target grade and the topics where they most need to improve. We cover the full GCSE maths curriculum, including number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics, across both Foundation and Higher tiers.
Yes. We help Year 6 children prepare for their KS2 SATs® maths papers, working through both the Arithmetic and Reasoning papers using a personalised plan that focuses on the areas each child finds most difficult. The goal is to head into exam season with real confidence rather than last-minute cramming.
We also support Year 4 children preparing for the Multiplication Tables Check and Year 2 children working towards their KS1 assessments.
Mathnasium of Clapham operates on a flat monthly membership fee. The number of sessions per week we recommend will depend on your child's personalised learning plan and goals, but most pupils attend two to three times a week.
To find out about current pricing, contact us at [email protected] or call 0208 2617 648.
Start by getting in touch through the Contact Us button on this page or by emailing [email protected]. We will arrange a diagnostic assessment to build an accurate picture of where your child is in their maths and what type of support they need most.
After the assessment, we will walk you through the results and the personalised learning plan we have put together for your child, and answer any questions before sessions begin.
