• Where is Mathnasium of Barnet located?

  Mathnasium of Barnet is at 4 Hadley Parade, High Street, High Barnet, EN5 5SX, at the Hadley end of High Barnet High Street, a short walk up from the Spires Shopping Centre and Gail’s Bakery. High Barnet Underground station on the Northern line is close by, and parking is available on nearby streets during the times we are open for sessions. 

  Nearby car parks include the Spires, Stapylton Road and Moxton Street. Free parking is also available nearby on sections of the Great North Road during the week (see local signs for restrictions).

  Our instructional hours are: 

  • Monday to Thursday: 3:30pm – 7:00pm  

  • Saturday: 10:00am – 2:00pm

• What year groups does Mathnasium of Barnet work with?

  Mathnasium of Barnet works with children from Reception through to GCSE, children aged 4 to 16, covering all Key Stages from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS4. 

  Barnet has a rich mix of educational options: outstanding state primaries, selective grammar schools and a cluster of well-regarded independent schools ranging from prep through to senior level.  

  Families come to us at all stages, from early primary maths through to focused GCSE preparation, and we build a programme that fits wherever a child is in that journey.

• What maths topics and subjects can your tutors in Barnet help with?

  Our instructors support children across the full primary and secondary maths curriculum: number, arithmetic, fractions, decimals and percentages, algebra, geometry, ratio and proportion, statistics, trigonometry and probability, at every level from KS1 through to KS4. 

  Beyond the school curriculum, our instructors are experienced in the numerical reasoning and problem-solving content that features in 7+, 11+, 12+, 13+ and Common Entrance papers.  

  Sessions are always guided by each child’s personalised learning plan, so a Year 2 student building number fluency and a Year 10 student working towards a GCSE grade 9 each get a programme that fits exactly where they are.

  Every child begins their Mathnasium experience with a diagnostic assessment that helps us understand exactly where they are in their maths. Their programme is then built around a personalised learning plan that maps out which knowledge gaps need closing and in what order. 

  Our specially trained instructors follow the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach used across 1,200+ centres worldwide, so progress is planned and cumulative rather than reactive.  

  Every student follows their own learning plan and receives individualised instruction during the sessions that take place in our learning centre alongside other students, but children are never taught as a class or expected to work through the same lesson together. 

• How do you teach maths? Which curriculum do you use?

  We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach, and not a traditional curriculum. 

  Our approach combines personalised learning plans with proven teaching techniques to promote deep understanding over memorization. It is developed to help students build solid foundations for maths mastery, transforming how they think and feel about the subject.  

  In practice, our instructors draw on mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written approaches, all guided by each child’s personalised learning plan.  

• Who will be working with my child?

  Every child at Mathnasium works with one of our specially trained instructors, all DBS-checked and equipped through our instructor training programme to explain any concept in the way that works best for your child. 

  Many of our instructors are studying maths-based degrees at Russell Group universities, and we invest in ongoing training so those standards keep rising across the team. That shows in the results: our Lead Instructor, Alaiya, holds our Centre Champion Award, recognising her as the top-performing instructor across the UK network.

• Do you work with advanced children or only those struggling with maths?

  We work with children of all skill levels.  

  For students who need to catch up or keep up, our caring, specially trained instructors provide a structured, step-by-step approach that fills gaps in the foundations, all within a supportive, fun and collaborative sessions that keeps children engaged and motivated rather than feeling put on the spot.  

  Each child's personalised learning plan means the focus is always on what that individual child needs, so progress is real rather than surface-level. 

  For high-achieving students preparing for selective school entry, we extend learning well beyond the standard curriculum, developing the problem-solving depth, accuracy and speed that 7+, 11+, 12+, 13+ and Common Entrance papers reward. • Do you prepare children for the 11+?

  Yes! Mathnasium of Barnet supports students preparing for the 11+ alongside other selective entrance assessments, including 7+, 12+, and 13+. 

  We recommend starting 11+ preparation in Year 4 or early Year 5. For 12+ and 13+ assessments, the timeline and content vary by school, and we tailor preparation to the specific papers and schools each child is targeting.

• Do you prepare children for Common Entrance?

  Yes! Common Entrance is used by many independent senior schools at 11+, 12+ and 13+, and the maths paper draws on a broad range of topics from the primary and early secondary curriculum.  

  Mathnasium of Barnet supports students preparing for Common Entrance with a personalised plan built around the specific demands of their target schools and the current gaps in their maths. 

• Do you prepare children for GCSE maths?

  Yes, our instructors work with Year 10 and Year 11 students on personalised GCSE preparation plans built around their current grade, target and the topics that need the most work.  

  We cover the complete GCSE maths curriculum across Foundation and Higher tiers: number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics. 

  For children coming from selective or independent school backgrounds, GCSE expectations are often particularly high. We build a plan that is efficient and well-targeted, helping children reach their potential without wasted sessions. 

• Do you prepare children for SATs?

  Yes. We support Year 6 children preparing for their KS2 SATs maths papers, working through both the Arithmetic and Reasoning components with a personalised plan that targets each child’s specific areas of difficulty.  

  We also support Year 4 children ahead of the Multiplication Tables Check and Year 2 children working towards their KS1 assessments.

• Do you offer online maths tutoring?

  Yes, during holiday periods. Our platform, Mathnasium@Home brings the same structured, personalised sessions online as a live, face-to-face tutoring option.  

  Children work in real time with our specially trained instructors, following the same personalised learning plan they would use in centre. It’s a practical option for families whose schedules or location make travelling to the centre difficult. 

• How much does maths tutoring cost at Mathnasium of Barnet?

  Mathnasium of Barnet operates on a flat monthly membership fee.  

  Following the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session schedule tailored to your child’s personalised learning plan and goals. Most children attend two to three sessions per week.
