At Mathnasium of Crouch End, our specially trained instructors use the Mathnasium Method™ to get to the root of how each child understands maths, and build from there. This proprietary teaching approach combines personalised learning plans with mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques, so children develop a grasp of maths that goes beyond memorised steps.
Crouch End and Highgate families come to us with different goals: 11+ preparation, GCSE support, Olympiad ambitions. The Mathnasium Method™ is built to meet all of them.
Our caring, specially trained instructors have been working with children in Crouch End and Highgate since December 2018. Sessions run in a supportive group setting where each child receives individual instruction, in-centre on Tottenham Lane or online via Mathnasium@home, guided by their own personalised learning plan.
Over the years, our instructors have built a clear picture of the schools, entry processes and maths expectations that local families navigate, whether your child is preparing for 11+ entry, working towards their GCSE or pushing into Olympiad-level problem-solving.
Every student at Mathnasium of Crouch End begins with a diagnostic assessment that identifies exactly where their maths understanding is secure and where gaps have formed — gaps that classroom teaching often cannot address individually.
Those findings shape a personalised learning plan that closes gaps in a logical sequence, so each new concept has the foundations it needs to land properly. As children work through their plan, topics that felt slippery become solid and confidence follows.

Specially Trained and Caring Team
Martin Heaton Cooper
Centre Director & Owner
Remi Crisp
Centre Manager
Remi studied International Business, Economics and Politics with an emphasis on accounting at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. Whilst living in Japan, she deepened her appreciation of maths as it was integral to her earlier career development. Working in the financial services' software industry, Remi supported and educated clients in their usage and understanding of the financial modelling the maths engine provided and developed internal communication workflows and content creation capabilities.
Remi settled in North London eleven years ago, and her two children happily attend school in Muswell Hill. She loves to help and watch her elder child's growth in his love for the subject and become the sweetest numeracy mentor to his younger sister. But most of all, Remi loves engaging in the community for the direct benefit of the children. She is passionate about creating a fun, engaging and inspiring environment that empowers our Mathnasium students with the twin tools of numeracy and problem solving that are so valuable to have in life. She also enjoys yoga.
Nazzia
Assistant Manager
Milly
Head of Education
Milly studied animal science and worked as a vet nurse for 2 years, but she has always loved maths and thinks that it is the foundation of all knowledge and all life. In her spare time she plays the piano, paints and reads books about maths & mathematicians through the ages. Before working at Mathnasium, Milly spent a year in South Africa caring for injured wildlife, but eventually wanted a more challenging and mentally stimulating occupation. She finds teaching children really rewarding and loves to see them developing a true understanding & enjoyment of maths.
Farhan
Lead Instuctor
Farhan enjoys studying and teaching Maths. Having previously tutored Maths & Mandarin for 3 years, he is excited to share his skills with his students. Cracking the answers to the most difficult Maths problems gives him great satisfaction. He has entered and received awards in competitive challenges such as the UKMT Maths Challenge and the British Physics Olympiad. Farhan is a swimmer, pianist, and competitive Karateka, preparing for his black belt grading. He enjoys reading 1800s novels and travelling abroad.

Mathnasium of Crouch End works with children from Year 1 through to GCSE: children aged 5 to 16, covering Key Stages 1 through to KS4.
Crouch End and Highgate sit between several very different secondary options: popular state comprehensives like Highgate Wood, selective independent schools like Channing, and grammar school routes for families who look further afield. We work with children at every stage of that journey, from the early primary years through to Year 11 GCSE preparation.
Our instructors cover the full range of primary and secondary maths: number, arithmetic, fractions, decimals and percentages, algebra, geometry, ratio and proportion, statistics, probability and trigonometry, across KS1 through to KS4.
For children preparing for the 11+ or the Maths Olympiad, instruction can extend well beyond the standard curriculum into problem-solving, logical reasoning and the kind of mathematical thinking these assessments specifically reward.
Sessions are always guided by each child’s personalised learning plan, so the content is always relevant to where that child is.
The core difference is structure. Most private tutoring is driven by what a child brings to the session, which can be a topic from school, a piece of homework, or an upcoming test.
At Mathnasium of Crouch End, sessions are structured and every child follows a personalised learning plan built around their individual knowledge gaps and goals. That plan determines what gets covered and in what order, which secures that gaps are closed properly.
To ensure students are also keeping up with their maths class, a portion of each session is dedicated to homework help.
Our instructors follow the Mathnasium Method™, a proven teaching approach used across 1,200+ centres worldwide, so the support is consistent and every session builds on the last. Sessions are delivered face-to-face and take place in a fun small-group setting that many children find motivating.
Instead of a one-size-fits-all curriculum, we use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach. This approach combines personalised learning plans with proven teaching techniques to promote deep understanding over memorisation. It is developed to help students build solid foundations for maths mastery, transforming how they think and feel about the subject.
To keep students engaged as they explore math concepts, our instructors use mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques, always guided by each child’s personalised learning plan.
We work with children of all skill levels. Mathnasium of Crouch End has been part of the community since 2018, and over that time we have worked with children whose goals range from building basic number confidence to competing in national maths competitions.
Children who are already confident in maths can further extend their learning into the problem-solving depth, speed and precision that the Maths Olympiad and selective school entry demand.
For children who are struggling to keep up in their maths class or have lost ground, we find the point where their understanding is solid and build forward from there, at a pace that works for them.
Yes! Mathnasium of Crouch End supports students preparing for 11+ entrance assessments.
We recommend starting 11+ preparation in Year 4 or early Year 5, allowing enough time to work through all relevant topics systematically and practise the kind of multi-step reasoning these papers require. The sooner preparation begins, the more time there is to build real confidence rather than surface familiarity.
Yes. Mathnasium of Crouch End supports students entering UKMT Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematical Challenges and Olympiad rounds.
These competitions reward the kind of mathematical thinking that goes well beyond the school curriculum: elegant reasoning, creative problem-solving and the ability to approach unfamiliar problems without a memorised method to fall back on.
Yes, our instructors work with Year 10 and Year 11 students on personalised GCSE preparation plans built around their current grade, target and the topics where the most work is needed. We cover the complete GCSE maths curriculum across both Foundation and Higher tiers: number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics.
Crouch End and Highgate families often have high expectations for GCSE outcomes, particularly children heading into sixth forms with demanding entry requirements. We build a plan that helps students reach their target grade efficiently, without wasted sessions on material they already know well.
Yes, we support Year 6 children preparing for their KS2 SATs maths papers, covering both the Arithmetic and Reasoning components with a personalised plan focused on each child’s specific areas of difficulty.
We also support Year 4 children ahead of the Multiplication Tables Check.
Mathnasium of Crouch End operates on a flat monthly membership fee.
After the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session schedule tailored to your child’s personalised learning plan and goals. Most children attend two to three sessions per week.
Use the Contact Us button on this page, call us on 020 300 49404, or email [email protected].
We will arrange a diagnostic assessment to build an accurate picture of where your child is in their maths and what type of support they need most.
After the assessment, we will walk you through the results and the personalised learning plan we have put together for your child, and answer any questions before sessions begin.
