The Mathnasium Method™ is our proprietary teaching approach, designed to help children build lasting maths mastery. It brings together mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques within each child's personalised learning plan, so children can grasp why a concept works rather than simply memorising steps.
We work with students at their own pace, building the kind of maths mastery that holds up under exam pressure and in the classroom.
Our specially trained instructors are focused on helping every child unlock their maths potential. We deliver instruction face-to-face in a caring and fun group environment, whether in-centre on The Parade or online through Mathnasium@home.
Students follow their own personalised learning plan from Reception through to GCSE, and instructors celebrate every win along the way, big or small, building the confidence that comes with real progress.
At Mathnasium of Watford, enrolment begins with a diagnostic assessment to build a clear picture of a child's existing strengths and knowledge gaps. Using those assessment-based insights, we build a personalised learning plan sequenced to suit the student, rather than following a generic syllabus.
The plan doesn't stay static. We revisit it regularly, so it keeps pace with how a child is progressing.

We work with students from Reception through to GCSE, ages 4 to 16, across every Key Stage from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS4.
Watford families come to us for a wide range of reasons: some want an early start on number sense, others are working toward one of the borough's grammar school tests and others are focused on GCSE.
Our caring instructors work across the full primary and secondary maths curriculum: number and arithmetic, fractions, decimals and percentages, algebra, ratio and proportion, geometry, statistics and trigonometry, spanning KS1 through to KS4.
We follow personalised learning plans rather than a set syllabus, so each child receives the maths support they need.
Private tutoring is often reactive, brought in to help with a tricky topic, a piece of homework or an upcoming test, then stepping back once that need has passed.
Mathnasium of Watford takes a different approach, one built around long-term maths mastery while still making room for that kind of reactive support. We begin by closing knowledge gaps, then introduce new concepts in a logical sequence so each idea builds on secure foundations.
Every session also leaves time for a child's current schoolwork, helping them go back to the classroom with confidence.
Our instructors follow the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach used at more than 1,200 centres worldwide, delivered face-to-face in a caring and fun group environment.
We don't follow a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Our specially trained instructors use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that combines personalised learning plans with proven teaching techniques to build solid foundations for maths mastery.
Following the personalised learning plans, we meet students where they are on their maths journey, working to close their knowledge gaps and gradually expand their mathematical thinking. Our goal is to build the skills that will serve them in the classroom and beyond.
To ensure students can follow their maths class with confidence, every Mathnasium session also leaves room for their ongoing schoolwork and homework.
Mathnasium of Watford works with students of all skill levels, helping them catch up, keep up or get ahead on their maths journey.
For students who are already ahead, we offer enrichment beyond the school curriculum, including preparation for grammar school exams, entrance exams and UKMT challenges.
For children who are finding maths difficult, the personalised learning plan ensures we start from exactly where they are and grow forward at a pace that works for them. Our caring instructors work with them face-to-face, celebrating wins both big and small as we (re)build their confidence in maths.
Yes! Mathnasium of Watford prepares children for the South West Herts Consortium 11+ exams. Many of the families we work with are navigating entry to schools such as Watford Grammar School for Boys, Watford Grammar School for Girls, Parmiter's School, St Clement Danes School, Rickmansworth School, Croxley Danes School and Queens' School.
We also support children preparing for 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, 12+ and 13+ assessments used by independent schools in the area.
We recommend starting preparation at least one to two years ahead of the relevant exam, to leave time to build numerical reasoning skills and work through the full range of question types.
Absolutely! Our instructors support Year 10 and Year 11 students through GCSE maths, with sessions built around their target grade, current performance and the topics they most need to strengthen.
We cover the full GCSE maths curriculum from number and algebra to geometry, ratio, probability and statistics, across both Foundation and Higher tiers.
Of course! We help Year 6 students prepare for their KS2 SATs papers, working through both the Arithmetic and Reasoning elements with a personalised learning plan focused on each child's specific gaps.
We also support Year 4 students ahead of the Multiplication Tables Check and Year 2 students working towards their KS1 assessments.
Certainly! Mathnasium of Watford supports students taking part in UKMT challenges, including the Junior Mathematical Challenge, as well as Maths Olympiad competitions.
These competitions call for a different kind of thinking to school maths and our instructors build the problem-solving stamina and confidence students need to tackle unfamiliar questions under time pressure.
Mathnasium of Watford operates on a flat monthly membership fee, with most students attending two to three sessions a week depending on their personalised learning plan.
Following the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session plan tailored to your child's learning needs and goals.
Start by getting in touch through the Contact Us button on this page or by emailing [email protected]. We will arrange a diagnostic assessment to build a clear picture of where your child is in their maths and what support would help most.
After the assessment, we will talk you through the results and the personalised learning plan we have put together, then answer any questions before sessions begin.
